Philadephia Activates Veteran's Advisory Commission

Veterans' Advisory Commission Revamps

The city's long-standing Veterans Advisory Commission has gone through
a major change. It has added new members to the commission, with a
host of new goals.

They include Edward J. Lowry, chairman; Alfred Pirolli, commissioner;
Joseph Waters, Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation; Ernest
Landers, American Legion, Philadelphia County Council; Samuel Blow,
Disabled American Veterans; Delano Stones, Vietnam Veterans of
American Liberty Bell Chapter 266; R. Edward Speller, at large,
Philadelphia Stand Down; and Peter Fischer, at Large.

The new Commission will report to the President of City Council and
its members, the Mayor, all City Departments, Boards and Commissions
on the issues, problems and concerns of Philadelphia?s veterans
community.

Ed Lowry said, ?Through this effort the Commission hopes to propose
legislation and programs to the Mayor and Council to address the
identified needs of the city?s veteran population.?

The VAC is embarking on a proactive effort to advise men and women
veterans of their rights, privileges, grants, gratuities and other
benefits. It pledges to represent all veteran eras, ethnic and
religious and military organizations.
